The Kingsmead site includes 18 new-build plots each with their own 3kWp PV system as well as two blocks of flats with multiple PV systems. The main roofs host a 90kWp solar array split between two landlord supplies as well as an additional 30kWp of solar split between 18 flats. The system is ballasted and non-penetrative to ensure weather tightness and is accessible by a pair of permanent ladders. ESS designed the system to reach the SAP targets required by the local authority as a planning condition.

All materials and ballast were lifted to the roof by crane with safety provided by a 900mm high parapet wall. Additional roofing felt strips were placed under all the rubber feet to ensure the longevity of the roof covering with all ballast supported by the structures above to prevent excessive point loading
